Mumbai 26/11 anniversary

Yesterday was the third anniversary of Mumbai  Terror Attacks. I was just wondering what would be the importance we would be associating to the date.

There were no huge news flashes, dedications or memoirs.  Just a few TV debates, top news papers relegating the news to page 2 or 3.  Standard statements from government.

Some how I have to wonder, do we really have that short a memory? We have no follow up on the martyrs families. No improvement in security situation.  All the big wig politicos are back in business, back at the same post or a higher one.

The only people who lost something that day way the martyrs and the victims. The private firms that had collateral damage. But the politicians lost nothing. The police lost nothing. The security apparatus lost nothing, neither gained anything. The babus lost nothing, rather gained some free snacks and lunches in the name of report on the attack. The common man acts as if he has lost nothing.  India acts as if it has lost nothing.

Have we really lost nothing? Or is it really that miniscule?

That night 26/11/2008, Taj hotel, CST Terminus railway station, Nariman house, Leopold cafe it still remains as some bad memories in the minds of at least some Indians, like me.

The respect and thanks to the martyrs can never be lost in our day today run. I hope the media, politicians and babus will not forget that day, and take steps where more young men are not forced to give the ultimate sacrifice.

Jai Hind
